When the story of this class is written, it opens with Drew Allar at pick No. 106, a reach of 51 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 28 they get a building block for the line, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
By-the-book stuff, Emmanuel Pregnon at No. 38 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Christen Miller in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A clean, defensible pick in the 69th pick with a little surplus value in Jonah Coleman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Drew Allar this early at Round 4, Pick 6. It fills a real need, too.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 141, where Joe Royer graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Skyler Gill-Howard is a better player than the 167th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A running back of that caliber at slot 243 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
