Grand theft in pick No. 70: the Eagles steal Colson and grade out a B-.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Eagles did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

Spending an early pick on linebacker with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

Getting Colson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.18 · Pick 50 · Kamari Lassiter · CB · rank 41
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kamari Lassiter at Round 2, Pick 18 is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 49
Fair-plus on Edgerrin Cooper, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 52
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Junior Colson while clear needs at edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots sat open.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
A quiet steal in the 108th overall pick: Khyree Jackson for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Beau Brade · S · rank 134
Beau Brade at slot 120 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.25 · Pick 161 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 160
A straight-up fair deal on Tykee Smith at the 161st pick, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.35 · Pick 171 · Sione Vaki · S · rank 158
A slide stopped in the 171st overall pick, with Sione Vaki worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 170
No drama and no debate, Malik Mustapha went about where he belonged in slot 172. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.35 · Pick 210 · Steele Chambers · LB · rank 199
Steele Chambers slipping to the 210th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Sheridan Jones · CB · rank 219
Sheridan Jones in pick No. 230 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
