Nobody else had Nick Barrett anywhere near No. 191. The Patriots did, by 63 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.
The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
So much rides on Gabe Jacas that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 31 they get a premier pass rusher, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Keyron Crawford in the 63rd pick, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Jude Bowry at No. 95, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 125 with a little surplus value in Jack Endries. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Hezekiah Masses at pick 131 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jeremiah Wright. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nick Barrett well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Keyshaun Elliott at pick No. 198 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A minor itch, scratched.
Value said wait; Aiden Fisher in slot 202 says they were not listening. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Kaelon Black at the 212th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Nolan Rucci in pick 247, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
