The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Every board in the league had Okie-Anoma lower, and that gap is the story.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Xavier Legette in Round 2, Pick 2 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, Patrick Paul went about where he belonged in the 68th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They did well to land Brenden Rice in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Marist Liufau in pick No. 137 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They barely believed it either: James Williams still on the board at pick 180. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Trevor Keegan in the 193rd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Eyabi Okie-Anoma at slot 231, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
