When the story of this class is written, it opens with Jowon Briggs at Round 7, Pick 13, a reach of 36 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Cowing falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Zach Frazier at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 87 with a little surplus value in Blake Corum. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Jacob Cowing all the way to pick 174, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaylan Ford at slot 216. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They talked themselves into Jowon Briggs at the 233rd overall pick, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jordan Whittington in Round 7, Pick 24 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
