The Cowboys torched the value chart for Haynes King, taking him 52 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
The Wetjen pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
The back end got a real overhaul.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get an island corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the Round 1 slot they get the heartbeat of the defense at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
D'Angelo Ponds is a better player than the 59th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nothing to complain about; Jacob Rodriguez went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Kaytron Allen in No. 152, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
DJ Campbell at Round 5, Pick 37 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kaden Wetjen at pick No. 246 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Haynes King in slot 256 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
