Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Cowboys, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Reaching for Washington left real value on the table behind him. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Proctor steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
In No. 24 they get an island corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on Christian Haynes in pick No. 56; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Dominick Puni at par in the 87th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for Tahj Washington, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They jumped the gun on Javontae Jean-Baptiste, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Josh Proctor at the 242nd pick for years; that is how good the value is. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
