The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Lathan Ransom slide 63 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Every board in the league had Jackson lower, and that gap is the story. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They read the board right and Kaleb Johnson was the payoff at No. 51. The roster fit checks out.
A quiet steal in the 76th overall pick: Deone Walker for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
Logan Brown in pick No. 108 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kobe King is a better player than Round 5, Pick 11 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They let Raheim Sanders come to them and pounced at slot 170. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cam Jackson in the 172nd pick, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Lathan Ransom in pick 174 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Steal is underselling it; Kurtis Rourke at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for Miles Frazier, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Carson Vinson in the 249th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
