This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Kaleb Johnson, the No. 51 name on the board, stolen at the 149th pick. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They are betting Henderson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
TreVeyon Henderson at pick No. 42 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jalen Royals at the 75th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kaleb Johnson at slot 149 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Omarr Norman-Lott in pick 169, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Nazir Stackhouse at par in No. 170, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Andrew Mukuba in Round 5, Pick 33, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They barely believed it either: Lathan Ransom still on the board at the 186th overall pick. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A tight end of that caliber at the 209th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
