The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 32 spots for Harold Perkins Jr., and value like that does not grow back.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Wheatley pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They will answer for taking safety early while quarterback, running back and other spots went begging.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 18 they get a two-high chess piece, reach and all. Need was not the driver here.
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a green-dot type in the middle, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jacob Rodriguez in the 49th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Malik Muhammad in the 92nd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
