Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

by D.HAWK · 2026 NFL Draft · 10 picks · 7 steals · 2 reaches
Value B-
Need B
Trades C+
Future A+

The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: CJ Allen, the No. 31 name on the board, sitting there at slot 62 like a gift left on the doorstep. No fireworks, but a solid B.

The Perkins Jr. reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. With quarterback, running back and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.18 · Pick 18 · Jermod McCoy · CB · rank 18
In No. 18 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Malachi Lawrence · DE-EDGE · rank 76
They talked themselves into Malachi Lawrence at the 49th pick, and the board did not agree. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.30 · Pick 62 · CJ Allen · LB · rank 31
They will replay CJ Allen at the 62nd pick for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Michael Taaffe · S · rank 69
Circle this one: Michael Taaffe at No. 92 is a fall that decides a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.33 · Pick 97 · Harold Perkins Jr. · LB · rank 129
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Harold Perkins Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Zakee Wheatley · S · rank 85
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 112th overall pick on Zakee Wheatley with quarterback, running back and other spots unsolved.
R5.12 · Pick 152 · Dametrious Crownover · OT · rank 139
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dametrious Crownover at slot 152. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.37 · Pick 177 · Bryce Boettcher · LB · rank 166
Bryce Boettcher at pick No. 177 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.40 · Pick 180 · Marlin Klein · TE · rank 172
They let Marlin Klein come to them and pounced at the Round 5 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.2 · Pick 218 · Tyren Montgomery · WR · rank 207
The board had Tyren Montgomery higher than Round 7, Pick 2, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
