It is the swing that defines the weekend: Caden Curry in slot 78, a good 47 spots before the room expected him. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
The Caldwell steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
It is not that Barham is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get an island corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jacob Rodriguez at No. 47 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They talked themselves into Caden Curry at pick 78, and the board did not agree. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jaishawn Barham adds an edge rusher and leaves quarterback, running back and other spots untouched.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bud Clark. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Steal is underselling it; Treydan Stukes at Round 4, Pick 12 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value with a capital V on Dametrious Crownover in the 156th overall pick, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Kaleb Elarms-Orr at par in pick 177, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nothing to complain about; Marlin Klein went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a wide receiver like Jeff Caldwell reach No. 218 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
