The Cowboys ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
The Wheatley pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In slot 31 they get a premier pass rusher, even if it was a touch early.
Steal is underselling it; Jacob Rodriguez at No. 92 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Zakee Wheatley in the 112th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They took Harold Perkins Jr. at par in pick No. 131, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A slide stopped in pick 152, with Dametrious Crownover worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Somehow Nate Boerkircher was still sitting there in pick 177, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ar'maj Reed-Adams slipping to No. 180 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jadon Canady is a better player than the Round 7 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
