The rest of the league had time to spare on Caden Curry; the Cowboys did not wait, grabbing him 59 spots ahead at No. 72. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They banked enough surplus on Prysock to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The Curry pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback and tight end still on the board. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 19th overall pick they get an enforcer at safety, though they paid up to get him. More want than need.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing CJ Allen in pick 41. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jake Golday in slot 63 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A surprising call. With quarterback and tight end still to address, they spent the Round 3 slot on Caden Curry, an edge rusher they were not short of.
A want over a need in the 83rd pick: Jaishawn Barham adds an edge rusher while quarterback and tight end keeps waiting.
No edge and no loss on Treydan Stukes in pick No. 92; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Skyler Gill-Howard in Round 5, Pick 19 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Aamil Wagner at pick No. 177 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Reggie Virgil higher than pick 180, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Le'Veon Moss in No. 212. The roster fit checks out.
Ephesians Prysock in the 218th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
