The trade table was a mismatch, and the Cowboys were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The Moore pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They will answer for taking edge rusher early while offensive lineman, linebacker and other spots went begging.
The cost of the Young reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a press-man option on the boundary. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In slot 25 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though the board says they badly overpaid. More want than need.
A want over a need in the 59th pick: Jake Golday adds an edge rusher while offensive lineman, linebacker and other spots keeps waiting.
A tidy little value on Zakee Wheatley in pick 92, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Devin Moore at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They did well to land Skyler Gill-Howard in the 152nd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A quiet steal in the 177th pick: Cyrus Allen for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
