Boards are made to be trusted, and the Cowboys shredded theirs for Caden Curry. He came off 41 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Golday pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, running back and other spots still on the board. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Jordyn Brooks pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get juice off the edge, though they paid up to get him. More want than need.
In the Round 1 slot they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. The biggest hole, addressed.
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, running back and other spots to take Jake Golday, an edge rusher that was not the priority.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose edge rusher. Caden Curry in the 89th overall pick leaves quarterback, running back and other spots for later.
Nothing to complain about; Zakee Wheatley went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They let Treydan Stukes come to them and pounced at pick No. 106. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good price on Aamil Wagner in pick No. 177, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy little value on Kaleb Elarms-Orr in slot 180, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Chase Roberts at Round 7, Pick 2 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
