The Cowboys put a flag in the ground for Caden Curry, 66 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Wheatley pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver, quarterback and other spots still on the board. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a two-high chess piece, even if it was a touch early.
In pick No. 28 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jacob Rodriguez at the Round 2 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Caden Curry at slot 59 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They bypassed pressing needs at wide receiver, quarterback and other spots to take Zakee Wheatley, a safety that was not the priority.
Treydan Stukes at pick 95 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Kaleb Elarms-Orr in slot 180, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Jeremiah Wright went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
