Quarterback settled, Daniels in the fold, and a D- for the Cowboys.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Omar Speights; the Cowboys did not wait, grabbing him 85 spots ahead at slot 256. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They banked enough surplus on Lovett to cover a lot of smaller sins.

They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Malik Nabers · WR · rank 3
In pick No. 4 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.5 · Pick 5 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In the 5th pick they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.24 · Pick 24 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 37
In pick 24 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.27 · Pick 27 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 45
In the Round 1 slot they get a run-stuffing presence up front, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Jonathon Brooks · RB · rank 48
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jonathon Brooks in No. 56. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 52
Junior Colson is a better player than the 66th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 125
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Johnny Wilson well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Beaux Limmer · C · rank 126
Beaux Limmer at Round 4, Pick 5 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Nehemiah Pritchett · CB · rank 143
Nehemiah Pritchett in pick 174 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Solomon Byrd · DE-EDGE · rank 261
They reached into another round for Solomon Byrd, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Fabien Lovett · DL · rank 183
The board fumbled Fabien Lovett all the way to the 233rd overall pick, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.24 · Pick 244 · Kendall Milton · RB · rank 201
Steal is underselling it; Kendall Milton at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Omar Speights · LB · rank 341
A real head-scratcher, Omar Speights in slot 256 is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
