They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Landing Muhammad III that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. With edge rusher, running back and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on DT-EDGE is the choice that costs them.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Guyton reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Caleb Williams. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
By-the-book stuff, Troy Fautanu at pick No. 36 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tyler Guyton at slot 40 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Jeremiah Trotter Jr. still on the board at the Round 3 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A curious use of the 100th overall pick. Edge rusher, running back and other spots needed the pick; a DT-EDGE in Maason Smith did not.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zak Zinter in Round 4, Pick 2. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jaheim Bell in pick 141 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Moose Muhammad III in the 181st pick, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Dwight McGlothern at slot 223, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
