Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jeremiah Trotter Jr. got past him. The Packers do not have to explain a thing at the Round 3 slot. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Spending an early pick on linebacker with quarterback, running back and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They are betting Keegan proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
They took Edgerrin Cooper at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A reach on Renardo Green in pick No. 66; the board had better options right there. A minor itch, scratched.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at linebacker with quarterback, running back and other spots open.
The board had cheaper options than Javon Foster at slot 104, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jarrian Jones a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Trevor Keegan at pick 128 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid a round early for Mason McCormick in the 134th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. in pick No. 144 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A slide stopped in the 169th pick, with Jalyx Hunt worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kitan Oladapo slipping to the Round 5 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Trey Taylor at Round 7, Pick 35 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
