The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Trey Amos slide 189 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Ashton Jeanty at the 38th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Armand Membou in pick 69 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jayden Higgins at pick No. 77. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Colston Loveland in slot 105 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Somehow Aireontae Ersery was still sitting there in No. 145, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Alfred Collins reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jaxson Dart at the 222nd pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Trey Amos in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
