More right than wrong for the Chiefs, and a B to prove it.

The Chiefs clearly saw something nobody else did in Vincent Anthony Jr., taking him 71 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

It is not that Everette is a bad player; it is that the Chiefs had louder needs to answer first. Getting Stowers where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.9 · Pick 9 · Arvell Reese · LB · rank 7
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a green-dot type in the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.31 · Pick 31 · Colton Hood · CB · rank 24
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. More want than need.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Lee Hunter · DT · rank 49
A reach for Lee Hunter in slot 40; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · Eli Stowers · TE · rank 56
They barely believed it either: Eli Stowers still on the board at pick No. 74. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.31 · Pick 95 · Daylen Everette · CB · rank 83
A surprising call. With quarterback still to address, they spent pick 95 on Daylen Everette, a cornerback they were not short of.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Bud Clark · S · rank 105
They did well to land Bud Clark in the 109th pick, just ahead of his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Emmett Johnson · RB · rank 108
Emmett Johnson slid further than he should have, and the Round 4 slot is lovely value for the running back. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.8 · Pick 148 · Dametrious Crownover · OT · rank 145
A clean, defensible pick in slot 148 with a little surplus value in Dametrious Crownover. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.29 · Pick 169 · Vincent Anthony Jr. · DE-EDGE · rank 240
A wild overpay on Vincent Anthony Jr. in No. 169, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.36 · Pick 176 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 193
A conviction pick on Jeff Caldwell at Round 5, Pick 36 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.29 · Pick 210 · Tyren Montgomery · WR · rank 223
They went early on Tyren Montgomery in the 210th overall pick, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
