Kansas City Chiefs

A sensible, unshowy class lands the Chiefs a B-.

The Chiefs treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick No. 169 on Jeff Caldwell a full 24 spots early. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

That Stowers pick is the receipt they will wave around later. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Colton Hood · CB · rank 24
In pick 24 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value.
R1.29 · Pick 29 · Zion Young · DE-EDGE · rank 43
In slot 29 they get a double-digit-sack hope, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Caleb Banks · DL · rank 42
They took Caleb Banks at par in No. 39, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Lee Hunter · DT · rank 49
Lee Hunter at Round 2, Pick 8 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · Eli Stowers · TE · rank 56
You do not let a tight end like Eli Stowers reach pick No. 74 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Jonah Coleman · RB · rank 93
A tidy bit of business in the Round 4 slot, where Jonah Coleman graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.8 · Pick 148 · Dametrious Crownover · OT · rank 145
Good price on Dametrious Crownover in slot 148, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.29 · Pick 169 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 193
Jeff Caldwell at the Round 5 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.36 · Pick 176 · Kaleb Elarms-Orr · LB · rank 181
No drama and no debate, Kaleb Elarms-Orr went about where he belonged in Round 5, Pick 36. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.5 · Pick 221 · Tyren Montgomery · WR · rank 223
No edge and no loss on Tyren Montgomery in the 221st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.10 · Pick 226 · Robert Spears-Jennings · S · rank 238
They paid a round early for Robert Spears-Jennings in the 226th overall pick, more than the board wanted. A minor itch, scratched.
R7.32 · Pick 248 · Andre Fuller · CB · rank 243
Fair-plus on Andre Fuller, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
