Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Dylan Fairchild at the Round 7 slot is 32 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Conerly Jr..
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a featured back at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid sticker price for Isaiah Bond in pick 41, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Drew Allar at par in the 53rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Josh Conerly Jr. is a better player than slot 72 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Wyatt Milum at pick No. 104 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Davison Igbinosun at the 136th pick, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Fair-plus on Dorian Strong, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Dylan Fairchild in the 200th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
