The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Logan Jones fell into pick 112.
The linebacker hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They are betting Payton proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a lead back with juice at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
In No. 20 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Treydan Stukes at slot 92 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Logan Jones in the 112th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Beau Stephens in Round 5, Pick 12; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A real head-scratcher, Cole Payton in the 177th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dae'Quan Wright at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Zavion Thomas at pick 218 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
