The real work happened on the phones. The Commanders fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on DT-EDGE is the choice that costs them. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jacobs.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Justin Fields gives the group a proven body among the projects.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Marvin Harrison Jr. in the 2nd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Troy Fautanu is a better player than pick No. 36 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had Xavier Worthy higher than the 67th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Khyree Jackson come to them and pounced at No. 101. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A want over a need in Round 4, Pick 3: Maason Smith adds a DT-EDGE while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
They did well to land Ben Sinnott in pick 138, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Caedan Wallace at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Curtis Jacobs at slot 220 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
