Washington Commanders

Nobody dealt better than the Commanders this weekend: B+.

The Caden Prieskorn pick is the one that will follow the Commanders into the fall. They took him 41 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jenkins.

That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.10 · Pick 10 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 11
Olumuyiwa Fashanu at the Round 1 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 46
Jordan Morgan at pick No. 36 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 42
They did well to land J.J. McCarthy in pick 48, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Kris Jenkins · DL-EDGE · rank 52
A edge rusher of that caliber at slot 71 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 102
Good price on Payton Wilson in Round 4, Pick 7, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R4.10 · Pick 110 · James Williams · S · rank 123
They jumped the gun on James Williams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R5.8 · Pick 144 · Dallin Holker · TE · rank 164
Dallin Holker at pick 144 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.10 · Pick 185 · Caden Prieskorn · TE · rank 226
Caden Prieskorn at the Round 6 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Omar Speights · LB · rank 222
Omar Speights in Round 6, Pick 41 is fair value, right on his grade. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R6.45 · Pick 220 · Andrew Raym · C · rank 240
Value said wait; Andrew Raym in No. 220 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.8 · Pick 228 · Landon Jackson · DL-EDGE · rank 229
They paid sticker price for Landon Jackson in pick No. 228, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.16 · Pick 236 · Roman Hemby · RB · rank 276
Roman Hemby in the 236th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
