The Commanders put a flag in the ground for Ben Sinnott, 43 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. It is not that Solomon is a bad player; it is that the Commanders had louder needs to answer first. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Williams.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get a blindside protector. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick 27 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chop Robinson. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Bralen Trice in Round 2, Pick 4, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Xavier Legette at slot 39 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had cheaper options than Jackson Powers-Johnson at the Round 2 slot, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid a round early for Cooper Beebe in the 67th pick, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ben Sinnott. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 102 on Javon Solomon with quarterback and interior defensive lineman unsolved.
No drama and no debate, Khyree Jackson went about where he belonged in the 104th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They did well to land Kamal Hadden in the Round 5 slot, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Curtis Jacobs at pick No. 181 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Somehow Miyan Williams was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 3, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
