The Commanders looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Billy Bowman Jr. at the 228th overall pick regardless, 120 picks early.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
Spending an early pick on defensive back with cornerback, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 21 they get a blindside protector, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A curious use of the 36th overall pick. Cornerback, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a defensive back in T.J. Tampa did not.
Jordan Morgan at the 39th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy little value on Malachi Corley in pick No. 66, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Princely Umanmielen in Round 3, Pick 7 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
Junior Colson at the Round 3 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Caden Prieskorn in pick 144 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jaylan Ford in Round 6, Pick 10 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Billy Bowman Jr. at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
