You could see the war room lean forward. Donovan Edwards at Round 6, Pick 13 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will need Prieskorn to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
The Colson pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback and interior defensive lineman still on the board.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Cooper DeJean at pick 36 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kris Jenkins in the 49th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Quinyon Mitchell in pick No. 71, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Payton Wilson at par in the 100th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A want over a need in slot 107: Junior Colson adds a linebacker while quarterback and interior defensive lineman keeps waiting.
A conviction pick on Dallin Holker at Round 5, Pick 8 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jacob Cowing in No. 185 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Donovan Edwards here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached a country mile for Caden Prieskorn at pick 195, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Bryson Nesbit is a better player than the 220th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jason Henderson at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
