Start where it matters. The Commanders took J.J. McCarthy to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The Sinnott pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. On value alone, Wilson makes the weekend a net positive.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Xavier Legette. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Darius Robinson in No. 40; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
They let Payton Wilson come to them and pounced at the 71st overall pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Ben Sinnott at pick No. 78 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Cam Hart at par in pick 100, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
