They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Mike Sainristil, 48 picks early at slot 110.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will answer for taking defensive back early while cornerback, edge rusher and other spots went begging.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick-by-Pick
A premium they did not need to pay, Jordan Morgan a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Patrick Paul in the 45th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Andrew Mukuba in slot 100. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They bypassed pressing needs at cornerback, edge rusher and other spots to take Mike Sainristil, a defensive back that was not the priority.
A straight-up fair deal on Tommy Eichenberg at pick No. 129, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Cameron Ward in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Jacob Cowing at par in pick 185, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trey Knox. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Gavin Bartholomew in pick No. 245 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Roman Hemby this early at No. 250. The roster fit checks out.
