The Commanders looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Gavin Bartholomew at the Round 7 slot regardless, 48 picks early.
Tampa falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Jordyn Brooks pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Laiatu Latu and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 7 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Jordan Morgan at the 40th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
T.J. Tampa in Round 3, Pick 7 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A slide stopped in the 107th overall pick, with Tory Horton worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kiran Amegadjie in slot 108. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had Cole Bishop higher than the Round 5 slot, and the safety fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Landon Jackson in the 185th pick, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
You do not let a wide receiver like Jacob Cowing reach No. 215 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Gavin Bartholomew, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
