Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Blake Watson at Round 5, Pick 39 is 158 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
Landing Jackson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, JT Tuimoloau and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 17 they get juice off the edge, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
A slide stopped in slot 36, with Ja'Tavion Sanders worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jordan Morgan at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Mohamed Kamara in the 94th pick, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
A tidy little value on Tory Horton in the 100th overall pick, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid up for Tommy Eichenberg at pick No. 107 when waiting would have done the job. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Nice patience on Troy Fautanu, who had no business lasting to No. 126. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Khyree Jackson in the 144th pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Mike Sainristil here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on Blake Watson at the 175th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jacob Cowing at Round 6, Pick 10 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jason Henderson in slot 228 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
No drama and no debate, LaDarius Henderson went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
