It is the swing that defines the weekend: David Walker in No. 228, a good 69 spots before the room expected him. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Colson pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at wide receiver, quarterback and other spots. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 7 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value.
By-the-book stuff, T.J. Tampa at pick No. 37 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Jordan Morgan in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Payton Wilson this early at Round 3, Pick 17. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Junior Colson in the 100th pick leaves wide receiver, quarterback and other spots for later.
Beau Brade at pick 107 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
No edge and no loss on Dallin Holker in No. 151; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Christian Mahogany in the 185th pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
David Walker at the 228th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
