The Commanders lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. Gray has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
They will answer for taking linebacker early while tight end, edge rusher and other spots went begging. If one pick saves this weekend, it is King.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A real need, handled.
The board had Tyler Guyton higher than the 36th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nice patience on Terrion Arnold, who had no business lasting to No. 40. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They will replay Payton Wilson at pick No. 67 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor itch, scratched.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cedric Gray adds a linebacker and leaves tight end, edge rusher and other spots untouched.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Blake Corum at pick 103. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy bit of business in slot 138, where Javon Foster graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kalen King in the Round 6 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Joe Milton III at slot 220 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
