This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Aaron Anderson, the No. 177 name on the board, stolen at Round 7, Pick 22. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The Dolphins indulged a want in Stukes while a need in quarterback, running back and other spots stayed open. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The cost of the Moore reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 13 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick No. 30 they get an anchor for the defensive front, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No drama and no debate, Blake Miller went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
D'Angelo Ponds at No. 61 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Emmanuel Pregnon in the 75th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Jake Slaughter was still sitting there in pick 87, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Derrick Moore at the 90th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, running back and other spots to take Treydan Stukes, a cornerback that was not the priority.
A tidy bit of business in pick 130, where Jack Endries graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board had cheaper options than Louis Moore at the 151st pick, and it noticed. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Circle this one: Dae'Quan Wright at slot 227 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Taking Aaron Anderson in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
