There is reaching, and then there is Cole Payton at the 151st pick. The Dolphins jumped the board by 47 and dared it to prove them wrong. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The Slaughter value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

In pick 11 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
R1.30

In the 30th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.11
· Pick 43
· Emmanuel Pregnon
· OG
· rank 39
Emmanuel Pregnon at slot 43 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.11
· Pick 75
· Jake Slaughter
· C
· rank 55
Jake Slaughter at the 75th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.23
· Pick 87
· Michael Taaffe
· S
· rank 68
They will replay Michael Taaffe at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.26
· Pick 90
· Deion Burks
· WR
· rank 86
A reasonable price with a little left over, Deion Burks in pick No. 90. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.30
· Pick 94
· De'Zhaun Stribling
· WR
· rank 111
They liked De'Zhaun Stribling enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 94. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.30
· Pick 130
· Kaleb Proctor
· DL
· rank 135
Kaleb Proctor in Round 4, Pick 30 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.11
· Pick 151
· Cole Payton
· QB
· rank 198
A big swing on Cole Payton at pick No. 151, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.11
· Pick 227
· Zavion Thomas
· WR
· rank 224
A tidy little value on Zavion Thomas in pick 227, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.22
· Pick 238
· Josh Moten
· CB
· rank 266
They reached a country mile for Josh Moten at the 238th overall pick, and the board is aghast. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
