The Cowboys put a flag in the ground for Will Howard, 60 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
On value alone, Brailsford makes the weekend a net positive. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

In slot 3 they get a centerpiece for the ground game. A clean fit for the roster.
Princely Umanmielen at the 33rd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Smael Mondon Jr. in the Round 4 slot, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Dontay Corleone reach the 151st pick and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Jaeden Roberts still on the board at the 169th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Will Howard well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Bear Alexander at slot 172 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, Kyren Lacy in the Round 6 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Parker Brailsford in the 209th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
