The rest of the league had time to spare on Zion Logue; the Commanders did not wait, grabbing him 70 spots ahead at the Round 6 slot.
J.J. McCarthy gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. Hart at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
The veteran additions, Kwity Paye chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 20 they get a passer to set the clock by, though the board says they badly overpaid.
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a building block for the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They read the board right and Graham Barton was the payoff at the 36th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Kool-Aid McKinstry higher than pick No. 40, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value with a capital V on Ladd McConkey in the 46th pick, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Edgerrin Cooper in No. 51. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
No edge and no loss on Kingsley Suamataia in Round 2, Pick 25; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A slide stopped in pick No. 67, with Junior Colson worth more than the price. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They reached a country mile for Ben Sinnott at the 76th pick, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Max Melton at pick 82 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Patrick Paul at the Round 3 slot is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They talked themselves into Justin Eboigbe at No. 103, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Renardo Green at slot 124 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They will replay Cam Hart at the 128th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They liked Dylan Laube enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 138. The roster fit checks out.
James Williams in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Joe Milton III in the 181st pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Zion Logue at the 220th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
