The trade table was where it all came apart. The Chiefs shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.
Caleb Williams gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
Every board in the league had Eboigbe lower, and that gap is the story. Smith at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
In No. 9 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 32nd overall pick they get an enforcer at safety, reach and all. More want than need.
Malachi Corley in pick 64 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Brenden Rice at slot 95 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Justin Eboigbe at Round 4, Pick 32 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
A quiet steal in the 173rd pick: Tykee Smith for less than the market said. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jalen Sundell in pick No. 252. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
