Call it larceny. Kaden Wetjen sat on the board until pick 241, and the 49ers did not need to be asked twice. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Their trades came out a wash either way.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a moveable chess piece at tight end at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the 58th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jack Endries at pick 129 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They barely believed it either: Jalon Kilgore still on the board at No. 138. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaiah World. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Charles Demmings at pick No. 147 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Kaden Wetjen in the 241st overall pick, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
