New England Patriots

The Patriots turned the phones into found money: A.

Future A+

The trade table was a mismatch, and the Patriots were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Getting Hall where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The Jerry Jeudy deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Rome Odunze · WR · rank 10
In pick 12 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 32
J.J. McCarthy at the 34th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 27
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Guyton at slot 35. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 57
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kingsley Suamataia in No. 68. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 94
Trey Benson at Round 4, Pick 4 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It fills a real need, too.
R4.36 · Pick 136 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 127
Johnny Wilson slipping to the Round 4 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 174
They read the board right and Dwight McGlothern was the payoff at pick No. 182. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R7.9 · Pick 229 · Gabe Hall · DL · rank 213
Gabe Hall slid further than he should have, and the 229th pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
