The tape said wait; the Cowboys did not. Justin Jefferson went at the 152nd overall pick, a good 51 picks before the board was ready.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.
The Stukes pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The Cowboys clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get an island corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Treydan Stukes at slot 112 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Justin Jefferson at pick 152 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They did well to land Aamil Wagner in pick No. 177, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Domani Jackson in the 180th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nick Barrett in No. 218 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
