Green Bay Packers

The Packers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Trey Taylor in pick 222, a good 44 spots before the room expected him. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

They will answer for taking safety early while tight end and interior defensive lineman went begging. The Keegan steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 27
In pick 25 they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 49
Edgerrin Cooper at Round 2, Pick 9 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 69
Patrick Paul at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 104
They liked Cole Bishop enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 88. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Dadrion Taylor-Demerson · S · rank 86
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in slot 91 leaves tight end and interior defensive lineman for later.
R5.6 · Pick 142 · Brennan Jackson · DE-EDGE · rank 155
A conviction pick on Brennan Jackson at pick No. 142 that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 144
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Trevor Keegan in pick 166, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Drake Nugent · C · rank 211
Drake Nugent at the Round 5 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Kendall Milton · RB · rank 202
They took Kendall Milton at par in pick No. 202, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · JD Bertrand · LB · rank 221
No edge and no loss on JD Bertrand in the 219th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Trey Taylor · S · rank 266
A real head-scratcher, Trey Taylor in No. 222 is miles ahead of his ranking. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Bub Means · WR · rank 246
A straight-up fair deal on Bub Means at Round 7, Pick 25, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Carter Bradley · QB · rank 294
They reached a country mile for Carter Bradley at the 255th overall pick, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
