The real work happened on the phones. The Cowboys fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
They are betting Sundell proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. Kevin Strong gives the group a proven body among the projects.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 27 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
T.J. Tampa at the 56th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kiran Amegadjie at Round 3, Pick 7 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They went early on MarShawn Lloyd in slot 87, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Khristian Boyd at No. 174, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They reached a country mile for Jalen Sundell at pick No. 216, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Michael Barrett in the 233rd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach on Kimani Vidal in the Round 7 slot; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
