Dallas Cowboys

Best value of the weekend goes to the Cowboys for Brown: B.

Future B-

Call it larceny. Barion Brown sat on the board until slot 208, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

If Dellinger pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.16 · Pick 16 · Deone Walker · DT · rank 36
In pick No. 16 they get a load in the middle, though the board says they badly overpaid.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Shavon Revel Jr. · CB · rank 50
They took Shavon Revel Jr. at par in slot 47, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Clay Webb · OG · rank 70
Clay Webb at Round 3, Pick 20 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.16 · Pick 117 · Deontae Lawson · LB · rank 84
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Deontae Lawson in pick 117, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.19 · Pick 120 · Lander Barton · LB · rank 110
A slide stopped in the 120th overall pick, with Lander Barton worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.15 · Pick 153 · Lathan Ransom · S · rank 127
Lathan Ransom in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.31 · Pick 169 · Jonah Coleman · RB · rank 156
Nice patience on Jonah Coleman, who had no business lasting to No. 169. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.32 · Pick 170 · Dane Key · WR · rank 190
They reached into another round for Dane Key, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.33 · Pick 171 · Garrett Dellinger · OG · rank 210
Garrett Dellinger at pick No. 171 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.14 · Pick 189 · Kurtis Rourke · QB · rank 196
Kurtis Rourke at pick 189 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
R6.33 · Pick 208 · Barion Brown · WR · rank 160
Barion Brown at the 208th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
