The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
However the rest shakes out, Davis at that price is a win they earned. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
It is not that Jackson is a bad player; it is that the Vikings had louder needs to answer first. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, with Caleb Williams leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 15 they get a weapon on the perimeter, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick No. 25 they get a franchise quarterback at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the 45th pick. A minor itch, scratched.
No drama and no debate, Brandon Dorlus went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 24. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Bucky Irving at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 88th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Kingsley Suamataia in pick 91, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Matt Goncalves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They bypassed pressing needs at safety and tight end to take Khyree Jackson, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Malik Washington at pick No. 129 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Leonard Taylor III in the Round 5 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
MarShawn Lloyd in the 168th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
They will replay Isaiah Davis at pick 230 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing David Ugwoegbu in the 246th pick. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
