It is the swing that defines the weekend: Logan Fano in Round 5, Pick 40, a good 75 spots before the room expected him. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.
Landing Stowers that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Stukes pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still on the board. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value.
In slot 31 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Value with a capital V on Dillon Thieneman in Round 2, Pick 11, a genuine coup. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They jumped the gun on Jacob Rodriguez, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Treydan Stukes at cornerback with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots open.
Steal is underselling it; Eli Stowers at the 87th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Caden Curry in slot 90 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached into another round for Mason Reiger, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Beau Stephens at pick No. 130 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Louis Moore at No. 151 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Matt Gulbin at pick 152 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Kaleb Elarms-Orr at par in the 177th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Logan Fano in the Round 5 slot, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid a round early for De'Zhaun Stribling in Round 7, Pick 22, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
