Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Patriots spent the Round 5 slot on CJ Daniels, a name the board had a full 33 spots lower. No fireworks, but a solid B.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Emery Jones went about where he belonged in the 34th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach on Quincy Riley in pick 58; the board had better options right there. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Andrew Mukuba in No. 66 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Oscar Delp at the Round 4 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Bryson Nesbit at slot 131, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on CJ Daniels at Round 5, Pick 14, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached a country mile for Miles Frazier at slot 196, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
